Could this 2027 quarterback be Texas’ next homegrown star? Longhorns make its move early
Is this rising junior the next great signal caller from the Lone Star State? Steve Sarkisian seems to think so and Texas is making its move.
Bobby Layne. Vince Young. Colt McCoy. Sam Ehlinger. Quinn Ewers. Kavian Bryant?
Texas has had a ton of success with homegrown quarterbacks throughout the years. And now there's another one coming up the ranks in Westwood (Tex.) four-star Kavian Bryant.
And one recruiting expert believes the Texas Longhorns are not only making an impression on the 6-foot-2, 180 pound prospect, but are the favorite heading into the fall.
Rivals' national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman believes the Longhorns are currently the favorite for Kavian Bryant.
In fact, a "full-court press" approach is underway, per Spiegelman.
“The first day they could make initial contact, they called me at midnight. I thought that was pretty cool,” Bryant said. “They sounded like they were interested in my style of play and how they could help develop me more. At their camp, I was able to work closely with Coach Milwee and Sark. It was a camp, but I felt like they wanted me to get a feel of how they do things over there.”
As a sophomore, Bryant threw for 2,442 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just three interceptions – completing an absurd 82 percent of his passes. He also ran for 709 yards and 11 scores on 12.2 yards per carry. Westwood finished 11-1 and made it all the way to the Texas 3A D-I second round.
“To be the signal-caller at Texas comes with a lot, but the way the coaching staff gave me constructive criticism during the camp showed me that they take a lot of pride in the quarterback position,” Bryant said. “Texas has recently made it to the playoffs and had a chance to win it all — and that’s a goal for me to play for a school that could win it all.”
Kavian Bryant is also an exceptional basketball player.
As a freshman, the 2027 recruit averaged 29.8 points and five rebounds per game – leading Westwood to a 27-9 record and Texas 3A regional semifinal appearance. Last season he jumped to 30.4 points per game and a 22-8 record.
But, his future appears to be destined for the gridiron. 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks certainly thinks so.
High-major two-sport prospect with big offers in football and basketball. Provides excellent playmaking ability with his arm and his legs in the former, along with elite skill and instincts in the latter. Dominant TXHSFB 3A dual-threat QB with enormous production through first two seasons. Adequate height with a lean, athletic build that will carry more mass. Very good functional athlete who consistently extends plays. Made noticeable strides as a passer from freshman to sophomore year and again in a relatively short time from end of sophomore season to the following spring elite camp circuit. Shows touch nuance and encouraging accuracy. Burgeoning velocity. Comfortable throwing on designed or improvised rollouts. More unconventional than some other high-level QBs at this stage, which is not necessarily a negative since he’s not a specialist; therefore, possesses immense developmental potential considering multi-sport foundation and all-around athletic profile. Comes from an athletic family, including a former D-I basketball player in his father. Appears to be one of the higher-ceiling QB prospects in the 2027 cycle. – Gabe Brooks, 247Sports
