Here’s why Bevo is banned from Peach Bowl and College Football Playoffs national championship game in Atlanta
Source: CFP officials determined there wasn’t enough space, so SEC and Peach Bowl officials made uniform decisions
Throughout university history, if the Texas Longhorns were playing a post-season football game, Bevo was in attendance.
Bevo’s string of perfect attendance in bowl games will be snapped in the Peach Bowl, however.
And Texas fans need to brace for this. Should UT reach the College Football Playoffs national championship game in Atlanta, Bevo will not be allowed in on Jan. 20 either, Bevo’s primary handler Ricky Brennes told A to Z Sports.
Brennes, the executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association, told A to Z Sports that his organization was told Monday that Bevo would not be allowed into the Peach Bowl and that decision would remain uniform for the CFP national title game.

Bevo was not allowed into the SEC championship game, which was also at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
A source familiar with the decision told A to Z Sports the decision stems from CFP officials determining there wasn’t enough sideline room specifically for the national title game at Mercedes-Benz. The SEC title game and Peach Bowl decisions were made for uniformity.
Peach Bowl officials tried to get ahead of the social media storm on Monday by issuing a statement.
“We love all of the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best, but the unfortunate reality is there simply is not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” the Peach Bowl statement said.
“With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we unfortunately will not be able to have Bevo on the field at the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.”
Silver Spurs ‘did everything we could’ but SEC not allowing Longhorns mascot Bevo to attend SEC championship
The Longhorns made it to the SEC championship game, but Bevo XV did not, unfortunately. Ricky Brennes, the executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association, told A to Z Sports on Thursday that the SEC informed him there wasn’t enough sideline space at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Thus, Bevo will not be making the […]
Don’t blame Uga, though. Georgia’s bulldog mascot is an easy scapegoat. Bevo famously charged out of his pen and walked toward Uga at the 2019 Sugar Bowl, causing a national stir and incredible viral moment.
But it appears this is more about space limitations on Jan. 20 at the CFP title game. ESPN will have multiple broadcasts going, requiring extra cameras and extra staff. CFP officials also allow sponsors and their guests, which also clogs up the sideline. If that decision was made for that game, the two earlier games followed suit.
Still, it’s comical that NFL stadium officials claim there are space issues.
The Silver Spurs can handle just about any space. Bevo didn’t have any problems making back-to-back trips to the Rose Bowl at the conclusion of the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Bevo made multiple trips to the Alamo and Texas Bowls, which are played in similar NFL-style venues.
The Silver Spurs use four 20-foot panels to create a pen whenever Texas plays Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl each October. The group has different size panels to accommodate different spaces.
Bevo has appeared in five of the six traditional New Years Six bowls — all but the Peach. Odds are if the Peach Bowl site wasn’t aligned with the with the CFP national title site this year, Bevo would be allowed in.
Should Texas beat Arizona State in the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1, the Longhorns will advance to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington. Brennes hopes Bevo can make it.
Every time Texas has played in AT&T Stadium, including the UCLA game in 2014 and two Big 12 title game appearances, Bevo was allowed in.
Texas fans will have support the Longhorns on their own for possibly two of the next three games. Bevo will be watching on TV.
