The transfer portal is set to open this week, which means we will continue to see some extremely talented college football players find new opportunities over the next few days.

That will include several that are expected, and some that take everyone a bit by surprise. It was more the latter on Thursday when Louisville star running back Isaac Brown announced his intentions to enter the portal. One of the top running backs in the country, it is a difficult loss for head coach Jeff Brohm and the Louisville program.

Over the last two seasons, the sophomore playmaker has rushed for 2,057 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging a stellar 7.7 yards per carry. Brown has also hauled in 43 receptions for 200 yards and a score. Some lucky team will get one of the most explosive runners in all of college football once the portal opens.

It appears, however, that Brown already knows where he is going. The 5-9, 190-pound runner entered the portal with a “no contact” tag, which means he already knows where he is going. Yes, tampering happens in college football. Teams have undoubtedly been reaching out for weeks, and a ton of money has been offered. Brown has already found what he deems to be the best fit.

Bidding war for Isaac Brown

As soon as Brown entered the portal, many expected that Miami was the top contender, considering that he grew up right in their backyard. Potentially pairing Brown in the same backfield as Mark Fletcher Jr. is a very intriguing fit. While the Hurricanes reportedly had some interest, early feedback is that another program might be the top contender right now.

That is the Texas Longhorns.

Steve Sarkisian’s team is saying goodbye to four different running backs via the portal this offseason, including Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter. With such a significant need in the backfield, the Longhorns are expected to be very aggressive to fill that void.

We’ll all have to wait and see whether Texas was the team that led to the “no contact” tag, but that seems to be where the early feedback is trending. If the Longhorns can land Brown, it would be a massive addition for a team that desperately needs to get better at running the football.

Prediction: Texas

Isaac Brown’s background

Originally a member of the 2024 recruiting class for Louisville, Brown was considered to be a consensus three-star player coming out of Homestead (Fla.) High School. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Brown finished ranked as the No. 526 overall player, the No. 44 running back, and the No. 66 player from the state of Florida for the 2024 class.

That came off a senior season in which the talented runner rushed for 1,084 yards and averaged 10.4 yards per carry, while playing only eight games due to injury.

Despite a modest recruiting ranking, Brown was pursued by some college football heavy hitters. Some of his top offers include the Cardinal, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Penn State, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, UCF, and Cincinnati, among others.
