Longhorns drew a record TV audience to watch dominating victory over Aggies in rivalry renewal
ESPN calculated it was the most-watched Texas-Texas A&M game on record
Whether they were Longhorns fans celebrating or Aggies unable to avert the gaze, a bunch of people tuned in to see Texas’ 17-7 win over rival Texas A&M last Saturday.
The numbers are in, and 9.46 million people watched the renewal of the historical rivalry on ABC, according to ESPN. It was the first time the game had been played since 2011, and the winner earned a spot in the SEC championship game.
The game peaked with 10.6 million viewers. What’s more impressive, it was the most-watched Texas-A&M game on record.

That said, it still wasn’t the most-watched Longhorns game of the year. That honor belongs to the first Georgia-Texas matchup at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Oct. 19. The audience measured 13.19 million that night on ABC.
Still, the Texas-A&M game is currently No. 2 on the most-watched list, just ahead of the Michigan game (9.19 million). The Texas-Oklahoma game looks pale by comparison coming in fourth overall at 7.63 million.
The Arkansas (4.6 million) and Kentucky (4.5 million) games were similar. The Florida game drew 3.9 million while the Colorado State opener got 1.84 million and UTSA had 1.48 million.
Games against Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt do not have public viewership numbers since SEC Network and ESPN+ are not rated.
