Texas coaches woke up Wednesday morning to some fantastic news for the 2025 season.

Ohio State defensive tackle Hero Kanu committed to UT and bolsters a defensive line beset by graduation losses. The best part? He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

Kanu can show the Buckeyes what they missed out on when Texas faces Ohio State in the 2025 season opener.

Kanu, a 6-foot-4, 315-pounder from Germany, played in 26 games with the Buckeyes and has 14 tackles and one sack.

Kanu visited Austin on Sunday and then took a quick trip to Florida on Monday before making his decision.

“Man, it was cool. It was only a limited time so it was only like a conversation,” Kanu told 247Sports. “I had a good conversation with Coach Sark. Just having a conversation about the future.”

Last season, Kanu played in 15 games and had one tackle against Texas in the Cotton Bowl as part of the College Football Playoffs semifinals. In 2023, Kanu had 10 tackles and one sack in 11 games.

Kanu could have stayed with the Buckeyes and earned some solid playing time. He was projected to play behind Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Houston.

Instead, Kanu joins the Horns who just lost Alfred Collins, Vernon Broughton, Bill Norton and Jermayne Lole. Complicating matters, Tia Savea, Aaron Bryant and Jaray Bledsoe have transferred out.
