Michael Huff, one of the best defensive backs in Texas history, is now among the all-time legends as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Huff was announced as part of the Class of 2025 along with some of the most well-known names in college history, like Virginia Tech’s Michael Vick, Texas Southern’s Michael Strahan and coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer.
The full class of 18 former All-Americans and four coaches was unveiled on ESPN’s “College Football Live” on Wednesday. The National Football Foundation will host the induction ceremony on Dec. 9 in Las Vegas.

“This is an incredible honor and an unbelievable blessing for my family,” Huff said in a statement. “Growing up in Texas, playing for the Longhorns was a dream come true, and now representing my school and program that changed my life is such an honor and privilege.
“This is a tribute to the great teams I played on, the awesome teammates and coaches I was so fortunate to play with and for, and of course, Mack Brown, who I will forever be indebted to for recruiting me to Texas and helping bring the absolute best out of me.
“The same can be said for my defensive backs coach, Duane Akina, who molded and developed me so much as a player and person.
Texas Longhorns corner Jahdae Barron plans on more highlight-reel interceptions to impress Michael Huff, NFL scouts
Barron switched jersey numbers this offseason with the approval of UT’s first Jim Thorpe Award winner
A unanimous first-team All-American in 2005, Huff becomes the 22nd Longhorn to enter the College Football Hall of Fame. The Irving native was a driving force behind Texas’ push to win the 2005 national title, and he was the Defensive MVP in the championship win over USC.
Huff became the school’s first Jim Thorpe Award winner that season and set the school’s career records for most defensive touchdowns (five) and most interceptions returned for a touchdown (four).
Huff was a two-time All-Big 12 selection. His 162 career interception return yards ranks sixth in school history. Huff’s 44 pass break-ups also ranks sixth.
In addition to playing football, Huff was an All-Big 12 sprinter for the track team and was on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He graduated with a degree in youth and community studies.
Huff was a first-round pick (No. 7 overall) with the Oakland Raiders. He played seven seasons in Oakland and one more with Denver in 2013 when the Broncos reached Super Bowl XLVIII.
Once his playing career ended, Huff eventually came back to campus and serves as the assistant director of player development. Huff took cornerback Jahdae Barron under his wing this season and pushed Barron to become the best.
Barron followed his mentor, wearing jersey No. 7 and winning the Thorpe Award. Barron is now projected to be a late first- or early second-round draft pick this spring.
“It's humbling to be listed among so many legends of Texas Football, I’m grateful for everyone at the National Football Foundation for selecting me and look forward to being a part of the celebration of this year’s class,” Huff said.
“The coolest part for me is that I’m receiving this honor at the same time that I’m also sharing my passion for the game in working with coach Sark and the Longhorns. That’s icing on the cake.”
