Steve Sarkisian loves “big humans.” The newest Longhorns commitment comes super-sized.

Melissa (Texas) offensive tackle Max Wright measures 6-foot-8 and checks in at 310 pounds. Offensive line coach Kyle Flood can work with that.

Wright has been coming to just about every recruiting event the Horns put on along with multiple football games. He finally pulled the trigger and committed to UT on Wednesday as the first offensive lineman in the class of 2026.

“They were the first to recruit me,” Wright told Inside Texas. “You got to stay loyal to that. My family is excited. I’m going to Texas. It really is a great place.”

Wright had plenty of choices. He was offered by just about every Power Four school but likes how the Horns have developed multiple offensive tackles in recent years. Kelvin Banks Jr. could be a top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and Cameron Williams may be a late first-rounder.

Not only that, but 6-foot-7 Trevor Goosby has blossomed and will take a starting role in 2025.

“They have proof of development,” Wright told Inside Texas. “They turned Trevor Goosby, who wasn’t a highly-rated recruit, into the highest graded offensive tackle in the SEC. I’m ready to work with (Steve) Sarkisian and Flood.”

Inside Texas also noted that Wright’s father played at Oklahoma State. Would he be convinced to clip to the Cowboys? No way, Wright said.

“What’s the point of committing if you’re not going to honor it? You gotta stay loyal,” he told Inside Texas.

Wright is just the third overall player in Texas’ class of 2026. The Horns also have commitments from quarterback Dia Bell and receiver Chris Stewart.
