Texas coaches must rebuild the offensive line in 2025, and there are two Notre Dame linemen headed to the portal worth watching.

On3 reported Thursday that starting center Pat Coogan and guard Rocco Spindler were expected to put their names in the portal.

Coogan would be an immediate starter with the Longhorns, a team that has NIL money to spend for the right players. Coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood would go out of their way for strong culture players, too.

Coogan was known around South Bend as being a strong locker room guy who was all in with the Irish. Known for giving pre-game speeches, Coogan shouted before the Sugar Bowl, “It’s God, it’s country, it’s motherf—ing Notre Dame.”

Coogan had a strong season with the Irish, grading out at 72 for the season according to Pro Football Focus. For comparison, Texas senior Jake Majors finished the year with a 72.7 while starting all season at center.

“Coogs is an unbelievable leader,” Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said during the postseason, according to On3. “He is passionate about this place. He is passionate about his position. Never complained about his role, just worked, and now he’s starting center and battling.”

Meanwhile at guard, Spindler had his best season of his four years with the Irish in 2024, grading out at 70.5 for the year. He struggled against Indiana and Georgia in the postseason but did better against Penn State and Ohio State.

The Longhorns have just one returning starter, guard DJ Campbell, coming back next year. Backup tackle Trevor Goosby will be an automatic starter for his capable play filling in against Texas A&M and Georgia in the SEC championship game.

But the Longhorns must turn over every rock, and if they can get two starters from an offensive line that played in the national championship game, all the better.
