The Minister of Culture has some thoughts about the “bottle bombing” that happened Saturday night at Royal-Memorial Stadium. “Not cool.”
Texas ex Matthew McConaughey, a sideline and TV fixture at all big UT football games, issued a statement Monday afternoon about the bottle-throwing incident that occurred in the third quarter against Georgia.
It was not alright, alright, alright.
In a statement addressed to “Longhorn nation and specifically our DKR student section,” McConaughey took dead aim at the debris being thrown aimlessly onto the field.
“First off, you were electric Saturday night when we hosted Georgia. Bravo. Let’s continue to bring it,” McConaughey wrote.
“But let’s get real about the bottle bombing the field glitch we had. Not cool. Bogey move. Yeah, that call was BS, but we’re better than that. Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show out like no other, and still keep our class.
“So, going forward let’s clean that kind of BS up and leave that behind us for good. We have to shake hands on that.
McConaughey noted the next home game is against Florida on Nov. 9 and “remember, nothing hits OUR field except that Texas fight.”
School officials are doing everything they can to comply with the SEC penalty handed down Sunday. The Longhorns were fined $250,000 and must use every resource possible to identify individuals who threw objects onto the field.
UT President Jay Hartzell issued a strong statement to the student body late Sunday and said that any student found to have thrown an object will lose their ticket privileges for the rest of the 2024-25 academic year.
The SEC has also threatened to take away UT’s alcohol selling privileges if there are future incidents.
“Til then, Rood hard and Hook em. McConaughey.”
