Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman made a disheartening prediction for the Texas Longhorns this week.
Spiegelman predicted on Wednesday that the Michigan Wolverines will land 2026 four-star running back Javian Osborne over Texas.
Osborne, 5-foot-10/195 lbs from Forney, TX, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 running back in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Texas. He's also rated as the No. 79 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
From Rivals.com: Osborne is one of the top backs in the country out of the Lone Star State. Shortly after Michigan tabbed Tony Alford to coach the running backs, it emerged as one of the top contenders for the four-star RB from Forney, Texas.
Texas was the leader in the clubhouse at various points in Osborne's recruitment and was quickly closing the gap after hosting the elite back and his family in January. With Tashard Choice off to coach in the NFL, the luster is again fading.
My prediction is that Michigan will come away with the touted RB.
This would be a tough recruiting loss for the Longhorns. Osborne is one of the best players in the state of Texas and losing him to Michigan would be a hard pill to swallow for Longhorns fans.
It's still possible, though, that Texas and new Longhorns running backs coach Chad Scott can convince Osborne to come to Austin, but it won't be easy.
Osborne recently announced that he's not taking an official visit to Texas in mid June as previously planned.
Texas has to get Osborne in town for an official visit to have a legitimate shot at winning this recruiting battle.
We'll see how things transpire in the next few weeks/months, but it certainly doesn't look great for Texas in the battle for one of the top running backs in the nation.
