Maybe this is too soon, but oddsmakers have futures bets for a reason.

Arch Manning has been listed as the early betting favorite to win the 2025 Heisman Trophy at Spotsbetting.ag. He’s listed as a 5-1 favorite, ahead of LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (10-1) and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik (12-1).

Is this far-fetched considering that 2025 will be Manning’s first season as the Longhorns’ starter? Maybe.

But then again, Manning showed some dynamic ability as a dual-threat quarterback during his 2 1/2-game cameo last season filling in for the injured Quinn Ewers.

Early sports betting is partly a ploy to gauge the initial public interest about various topics.

Fanduel already has published odds with Ohio State as the betting favorite to repeat as national champions next season. Texas is tied for second with Oregon as the betting favorite at that sportsbook.

Sportsbetting.ag seems to have put the cart before the horse with the Longhorns, though.

The website set the initial win total for Texas in 2025 at 9 1/2. That seems like easy money on the upside as the Longhorns will once again have a favorable SEC schedule. If it got ridiculed for being too easy in 2024, it’ll likely happen again next year when the sites are flipped.

Ohio State and Georgia (No. 4) are the only teams in Fanduel’s top-10 betting favorites for the national title that will be on UT’s schedule next season. Texas A&M did check in at No. 12.

When it comes to actually betting on the Longhorns this season, they weren’t a total sure thing.

The Horns were 13-3 overall on the scoreboard but 7-5-1 against the spread. They were also hard to predict in SEC play; Texas went 3-5 against the spread in regular-season SEC games.

None of this is meant to be betting advice. But it’s interesting to see how the Horns performed knowing that sports gambling is encroaching more and more on the sport.

Texas lawmakers currently do not allow sports gambling in the state. But that may soon change. Lobbyists are pushing to get a statewide referendum on the ballot whether or not Texans want to allow casino-style resorts. Most feel if that ever passed, there would be a major casino resort in Dallas and Houston.

Are the Longhorns going to win more than nine games in 2025? Can Manning win the Heisman Trophy?

It’ll be a fascinating journey the rest of the year, for sure.
