Steve Sarkisian talked with the media Monday about the Texas Longhorns’ opener Saturday versus Ohio State. Stanford wide receiver transfer Emmett Mosley V was impressive for the Cardinal last season and joined a talented room in Austin.
Sarkisian told reporters, though, he may not be a major factor right away.
“He’s been limited. I think we all would want him to be able to have been going the whole time with us right now. … For him, the growth is going to be as the season continues to go.”
Despite not being a game one difference maker, Steve Sarkisian knows what he has in the transfer wideout.
“Emmett, I’m impressed with,” Sarkisian said. “He is a bigger guy than you think, and he’s probably faster than I think, too. Everything about him is probably better than you would think.”
In fact, Sarkisian is well-aware of the kind of player Mosley is. He recruited him out of high school and is still confident in his ability to be a playmaker in 2025. Longhorns wide receivers coach Chris Jackson is also a believer.
“He’s the same person I saw from his junior film in high school before the injury,” Jackson said. “This is a kid that plays at his own speed and could run crossing routes, that provides a big body and a good catch radius and a good frame to catch the 50-50 balls. He’s physical and a very intelligent young man. This is who I recruited.”
Texas fans will love who Steve Sarkisian compares Emmett Mosley V to.
Former Texas star turned Green Bay Packers draft pick, Matthew Golden, has a lot of similarities, per Sarkisian.
“When Matt came to us from Houston, Matt was coming from a totally different way that they teach the offense,” Sarkisian said. “Every system is different, right? It’s like if you live in the U.S., and then somebody drops you off in France, and you’ve got to learn French on the fly. That’s tough to do as opposed to somebody who maybe is living in Canada and then moves to the U.S. It’s not that big of a difference. So, Emmett, it’s probably a little easier for him than maybe it was for Matt when Matt first got here.”
The 6-foot-2, 210 pounder finished his 2024 year with 48 receptions for 525 receiving yards (10.9) – leading the Cardinal with six touchdown receptions. Mosley played in nine games with eight starts and set Stanford records for most receptions and receiving yards by a true freshman. Furthermore, his 525 receiving yards were the most by a Stanford true freshman since Richard Sherman had 581 in 2006.
