Liberty Christian (Tex.) athlete Cooper Witten may not have lead his team to a win Friday, but the box score was absolutely littered with his exploits. Last week in a 31-28 loss to Anna (Tex.), the four-star junior prospect did it all on both sides of the ball.

Witten finished with 17 receptions for 175 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, he had 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass breakup.

The 6-foot-2, 210 pound prospect is ranked as the 12th overall prospect in 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the top-ranked linebacker and the No. 4 player in the state of Texas.

Cooper Witten is the son of a SEC legend and NFL Pro Bowler.

His father is former All-SEC and Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner Jason Witten. The former Vol superstar and Cowboys’ fan favorite is ushering his son along in the early stages of his recruitment. But, this decision will be his son’s and his son’s only. And the younger Witten knows what he’s looking for.

“Just somewhere I’m going to be developed as a player and a person as well. Reach my full potential,” Witten told Rivals earlier this summer. “Somewhere the culture is uplifting and I feel comfortable in the locker room there.”

Witten is already receiving a ton of recruiting attention from the likes of Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio State, among several others.

247Sports Collin Kennedy recently scouted Cooper Witten.

“Last year, Witten played safety and some receiver. This year, Witten will be making the transition to inside linebacker full time for the first time,” Kennedy said. “He’s also going to play a lot more on offense at wideout.

“Witten made several plays on both sides of the ball and was targeted even more, showcasing how much he’ll mean to this Liberty Christian team this season,” Kennedy said. “Drenched in sweat, hands on hips and constantly taking on contact, Witten never batted an eye.

“His fluidity and balance really stands out at times. Whether catching the ball and forcing tacklers to slip off, or navigating as a linebacker to hunt down the carrier, Witten’s a smooth operator when he probably should be labored.

“Just more evidence as to why he’s so highly thought of. Going to be interesting to watch him play more at linebacker while continuing to embrace any role he’s asked to take on.”

Cooper Witten is expected to be a part of a star-studded visitors list this weekend for the College Gameday matchup between Oklahoma and Michigan. The Sooners are set to host more than 75(!!) recruits this weekend in what could be one of the biggest weekends ever from a recruiting standpoint.
