Texas fans sure noticed that quarterback Quinn Ewers walked with a limp throughout the second half of Saturday’s win over Kentucky. Will he be ready for Texas A&M?

Coach Steve Sarkisian said afterward that Ewers suffered the injury on a hip-drop tackle, a maneuver that’s outlawed in the NFL because of the health risks it poses.

Ewers did not attend Monday’s press conference with nine other Longhorns to talk about this week’s game against the Aggies.

“I think he’s doing OK,” Sarkisian said. “I think he’s doing OK. We’re normally a morning practice team, but with this being Thanksgiving week and no school, we’re not practicing until this afternoon, so I’ll have a little better understanding when I get to see him really on the field.

“But he’s planning on practicing today, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Ewers downplayed the injury during the post-game press conference after Kentucky and said his ankle was tender.

It’ll take more than a bum ankle to keep Ewers out of the lineup against A&M. This is the first time the two rivals have played since 2011. The winner advances to the SEC championship game in Atlanta.

And by now, it should be apparent that Sarkisian is not going to pull Ewers for backup Arch Manning, no matter how much those on social media are wishing it would happen.

The Longhorns are done speaking to reporters for the week. The next window into Ewers’ health will come Wednesday with the release of the weekly SEC availability report.
