The Texas Longhorns just keep getting exactly what they want on the recruiting trail. They're fresh off the number one overall recruiting class this cycle already. Now, Steve Sarkisian and his staff just landed yet another elite wide receiver talent via the Transfer Portal to help Arch Manning find success in his first year as the full-time starting quarterback at Texas.

Last year it was transfer wide receivers Matthew Golden (from Houston) and Isaiah Bond (from Alabama) that helped the Longhorns offense ascend to where it needed to be to get to the College Football Playoff. Now it's Emmett Mosley (from Stanford) who will likely be asked to step up into a pivotal role for Texas in 2025.

Emmett Mosley V, Transfer WR from Stanford

As the spring Transfer Portal approached it was clear that Emmett Mosley V was going to be the number one target at wide receiver for the majority of college football programs. It was unclear whether or not Texas was going to be in the market for transfer wide receivers, but that's a question no longer. According to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports (and confirmed with other sources), the Texas Longhorns have signed Mosley and he'll be heading to Austin to play his 2025 season.

Why Mosley? What makes him so special?

Emmett Mosley shined from day one at Stanford last year, proving himself so much throughout fall camp that he earned an "OR" designation on the opening depth chart of the season alongside the other Cardinal starters. Unfortunately his true freshman breakout was delayed until the middle of last season because he was injured to start the year.

However, once he was healthy, Mosley stepped onto the field and immediately became a game-changing talent for Stanford. He tallied 71 targets, 525 yards, and six touchdowns in just nine games for Stanford last fall. He also finished the season with over 300 receiving yards and five touchdowns in the final three games of 2024 alone. His breakout season came a bit later than expected, but it was certainly wildly impressive when Mosley put it all together.

The question with Mosley and the Texas Longhorns isn't whether or not he's going to be good enough to start. It's going to be about which wide receiver's job he's going to steal.

Ryan Wingo still projects to be the team's X wide receiver with DeAndre Moore most likely working the slot for the majority of his snaps. Those two roles aren't going to be changing. It's the team's Z wide receiver spot that looks up for grabs with Mosley.

Parker Livingstone has been making some solid plays this spring, stepping up out of necessity, so many believed he may earn the other starting role. Kaliq Lockett and a handful of young high pedigree true freshman talents could have also stepped up by the time fall rolled around too. It seems Steve Sarkisian didn't want to leave that last wide receiver spot up to chance or huge leaps in development from his younger players.

Mosley played the majority of his snaps in the slot last season, but he also found a great deal of success playing outside wide receiver too as Stanford moved him all over the formation to put him in the best spots to succeed. Texas will likely do the same as he gives Arch Manning yet another special, explosive weapon to target in the passing game this season.
