The Texas Longhorns are locking horns with the Georgia Bulldogs currently in the SEC championship game. Well, locking horns and floppy ears. It's been a gritty, low-scoring affair so far between two of the conference's best.
Texas leads Georgia at halftime, 6-3. They're losing the penalty battle though. The Longhorns have 8 penalties for 80 yards, while the Bulldogs have 2 for 19 yards.
Sark's frustration
At halftime, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was blatantly honest about the holding calls going against the Longhorns. When asked how his team can clean up their play in the second half, he urged the referees to call a holding penalty on Georgia, too.
"Hopefully, they call them for a holding one of these times, too."
The interview abruptly ended after that comment, as you could see some clear frustration from Sark. The broadcast cut to their halftime interview with Georgia HC Kirby Smart at that point to avoid any more awkwardness.
Even without as many holding calls for the Bulldogs, their offensive line and wide receivers have struggled so far in the first half. Quarterback Carson Beck has gotten consistently pressured, even suffering an injury just before the half concluded.
Georgia's wideouts have had multiple drops on downfield throws that could have ignited their offense in the first half of play as well.
As for Texas, they've gotten just one sack, but Beck has not been comfortable in the pocket so far. Let's see if they dial up even more blitzes to force him to make spectacular plays or the refs to call Georgia's offensive line for a hold here or there.
No matter what – this game will be decided by which team makes more adjustments to finish the game and garner the victory.
