Steve Sarkisian emerging as potential candidate for Titans job amid NFL coaching turmoil
Sarkisian’s offensive pedigree and past NFL experience could make him a strong fit in Tennessee.
According to a Saturday morning report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is reportedly on the radar for NFL coaching openings, including the Tennessee Titans.
Russini stated that Sarkisian’s representatives, led by agent Jimmy Sexton, have informed NFL decision-makers of his interest in potential head-coaching vacancies — and the Titans appear near the top of that list. The timing of this announcement isn’t by coincidence. Tennessee fired head coach Brian Callahan earlier this month after a disastrous 1–5 start to follow up a 3–14 debut season, leaving the franchise in search of a reset.
One of football’s most respected play-callers, known for building explosive, quarterback-friendly systems, Sarkisian wouldn’t be new to the pressures of NFL coaching. He served as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons (2017–18), helping to craft one of the league’s top scoring units around Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. And his earlier stint as the Oakland Raiders’ quarterbacks coach (2004) gave him a foothold in the league long before his college resurgence.
In Tennessee, Sarkisian could inherit young quarterback Will Levis and a franchise eager to modernize offensively — a natural fit given his track record developing passers like Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama.
At Texas, Sarkisian has restored credibility to a blueblood program that spent a decade in flux. The Longhorns are 43–19 under his watch, reaching back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals in 2023 and 2024. But this season’s offensive regression — just 16.8 points per game against Power Four opponents — has fueled frustration around the program and made speculation about his next move more believable.
Sarkisian is under contract through 2030, earning $10.4 million annually with incremental raises, but a leap to the NFL could offer both fresh challenge and long-term security.
For the Titans, it’s a chance to reboot with a proven offensive architect. For Sarkisian, it could be the long-awaited return to a league that once seemed to have passed him by.
