Steve Sarkisian has no time to ‘babysit’ No. 1-ranked recruiting class of 2025 as Longhorns prepare for SEC title game
Sarkisian and his coaching staff should take a bow for another major haul of 24 recruits on early signing period
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian couldn’t spend much time this week making last-minute recruiting pitches to anyone undecided.
No offense intended. The second-ranked Longhorns (11-1) were too busy preparing for the SEC championship game.
Sarkisian and his staff made whatever calls they had to make. But mostly, they worked on game-planning for the Bulldogs and waited for Wednesday morning and the early signing period to begin.
Athletic scholarship agreements came rolling in before recruits when to class in their respective towns and soon after the celebrations began.

Down in San Antonio, five-star athlete Michael Terry III announced his decision to commit to UT over Nebraska and Oregon. Billboards began popping up in Texas and Florida to celebrate the newest Longhorns
The Horns announced 24 signees, including three five-star and 14 four-star prospects. What’s even better, 20 of those will be mid-term enrollees, meaning they’ll get a jumpstart on playing as freshmen.
Terry’s announcement helped elevate the Horns’ 2025 recruiting class to No. 1 nationally as judged by On3’s composite rankings. It’s not final yet, but it’ll be tough to beat when all the dust settles.
For the first time in ages, Texas did not hold a press availability with the head coach on signing day. Granted, National Signing Day is normally in February. But with the early signing period, most of the activity happens in early December.
Still, Sarkisian didn’t need to meet with reporters. He’s got the best advertising going: Texas has likely already locked up a spot in the College Football Playoffs and can secure a first-round bye with a win Saturday in Atlanta.
“I think that we’ve tried to build quality relationships with the recruits that we are recruiting, so that they understand, hey, when you come to the University of Texas, get used to playing in championship games, get used to preparing for the College Football Playoff,” Sarkisian said Monday.
“And because of that, maybe we can't sit on the phone with you for two hours and babysit you.”
