Every time it looks like the Texas Longhorns might be close to finished in the transfer portal, Steve Sarkisian and his staff make another big splash. As the deadline for players to enter the transfer portal approaches (Jan. 16), Texas is doing all they can to make sure their offensive line is where it needs to be for the Longhorns offense and quarterback Arch Manning. Now they’ve added yet another huge offensive tackle. Unfortunately, it might actually limit them in their chase for the best remaining talent in the transfer portal.

Wake Forest OT Melvin Siani commits to Texas Longhorns via the transfer portal

The Texas Longhorns have been annihilating the transfer portal competition. They now have one of the best sets of skill position players with wide receiver Cam Coleman added from Auburn, Hollywood Smothers at running back from NC State, and running back Raleek Brown from Arizona State all added in the last couple weeks. The only position on offense where the team had any remaining questions was the offensive line. That’s quickly becoming a non-issue with acquisitions like Jonte Newman, Dylan Sikorski, and now offensive tackle Melvin Siani from Wake Forest (as of Thursday).

Melvin Siani is most definitely the best offensive lineman acquired by Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns via the transfer portal. He’s logged nearly 1,600 snaps across three seasons between two schools (Wake Forest and Temple). He has over 500 snaps at both tackle spots and can slide inside to guard if the Longhorns want him there. This is a huge win for Arch Manning and the offense that needed a better, more experienced offensive line. However, this might mean that Texas is going to miss out on Jordan Seaton, the former five star tackle from Colorado.

Jordan Seaton is set to visit the Longhorns, but it might be too late

Texas most certainly has deep pockets when it comes to their investment in football, but everyone has a finite amount of revenue sharing money to spread around to their rosters. The Longhorns have now added three solid offensive line transfers, and Siani’s deal is likely expensive given his extensive experience. Still, Texas needs to add as much offensive line depth as possible thanks to their losses this offseason (DJ Campbell, Cole Hutson, Connor Stroh, Nick Brooks, and more). According to multiple sources, Jordan Seaton, the top tier prize remaining the portal at offensive tackle, is set to visit Texas. But is it too late and too expensive?

Considering all of the interested suitors in Jordan Seaton, Texas was already facing a tough challenge to land him. Seaton is a 6’5″, 330-pound monster of a left tackle with over 1,400 snaps of experience through just two collegiate seasons. All the top schools with plenty of cash are after him, including the Oregon Ducks — who allegedly just forked out $7.5 million for quarterback Dante Moore. The Longhorns are going to have to empty the coffers if they want to land Seaton.

Should they do it? If they can afford it, absolutely. However, given all the recent wins in pursuit of offensive line acquisitions, Texas fans should rest easy knowing that their offense now looks set to compete for a national championship in 2026.
