Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns recruiting apparatus doesn't mess around. All they continue to do is bring in elite recruiting class after elite recruiting class and it's not by accident. Sarkisian knows how to develop talent. And he knows how to close.
After landing two more recruits here recently in the 2026 class the Texas Longhorns are already gaining ground with one of the most important recruits in the entire nation.
Richard Wesley, Four Star DL Recruit
Richard Wesley is a top tier four star defensive line talent who already has about 100 tackles and 20 sacks through his first two seasons of high school football. So, yes, he's still technically just a sophomore, but he's a special one.
Once it became clear that Wesley was headed towards five star status in the 2027 recruiting class thanks to his wild athleticism and production he and his family decided it was best for him to reclassify to the 2026 recruiting class. Since then there has been a bit of a mad dash to sign him.
Although USC and Oregon have had the most contact with Wesley it seems there's another player joining the fold as a potential finalist. Wesley visited Texas for the first time this weekend and apparently it went extremely well. With just a few critical months remaining before Wesley likely commits he announced that he will "for sure be back up there" again to see the Longhorns.
There's still no word on whether Richard Wesley will be taking an official visit with Texas this summer, but given the recent visit and dedication to a future trip back to see Steve Sarkisian and company it's highly likely the Longhorns become a finalist, and soon.
If Sarkisian can close the deal on Wesley this offseason he'll likely be leaned upon in a significant role as a true freshman right away opposition All-American pass rushing talent Colin Simmons. Barryn Sorrell is already departed for the NFL. Both Trey Moore and Ethan Burke will likely be gone after this season. Texas needs their next elite edge defender talent and Wesley looks like he could be that player.
