Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has continually praised the school’s leadership during his four seasons rebuilding the Longhorns.

The coach indicated that won’t change now that UT President Jay Hartzell is stepping down to assume the same role at SMU.

“Unified. Focused. Relentless,” Sarkisian tweeted Tuesday afternoon, hours after the initial news broke about Hartzell’s departure. “Together with our Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife and Athletic Director CDC, we’re locked in. Let’s make history! #Hookem #TexasFight.”

Sarkisian also posted a photo from the day he was hired on X alongside the message.

Prior to Sarkisian’s arrival, Texas was known for having a school administration that was all over the map and often disagreed. Multiple coaching changes, athletic director turmoil and a controversy regarding the school song “The Eyes of Texas” left everyone deflated after the 2020 season.

But UT System Board of Regents chairman Kevin Eltife put an end to the myriad changes and gave athletic director Chris Del Conte real power to get things done.

Sarkisian was hired in January 2021 after Herman’s dismissal, and by all appearances, the football program has been given everything needed to build a winner in the SEC.

Sarkisian has the full support of the UT regents and Del Conte, who also blasted a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefterthat NFL teams will explore hiring Sarkisian this offseason.

“I think coach Sark has done just an incredible job,” Eltife told A to Z Sports in a phone interview Tuesday. “He told us when we hired him it would take time to build the culture he wanted. He’s done everything like he said he would do. He has upheld the great traditions of our school.

“I wanted all of our coaches to be a role model for the student-athletes, and he’s been an incredible role model. To be where we are after four short years, I think it’s incredible and my hat’s off the coach Sark and the entire coaching staff and support staff.

“We wanted somebody that would win with class and lose with class and be respectful of our institution,” Eltife added. “You couldn’t ask for anything better. He’s just done a fabulous job.”
