Texas fans might not have to wait much longer for one of the Longhorns’ top playmakers to return
This could be a major boost for the Texas offense moving forward.
Texas Longhorns’ running back Tre Wisner has been shelved since the opener. But, he teased a possible return this weekend on his Instagram. Could one of Texas’ best offensive players be back in time for the Week 6 matchup versus the Florida Gators?
In the season-opening loss to Ohio State, Wisner ran the football 16 times for 80 yards against a talented Buckeyes defense. But, since he has been on the bench in street clothes. But, if he can come back just in time for SEC play, this Texas offense will receive a major boost.
Let’s take a look at the latest on his injury and just what kind of impact he can potentially make.
Steve Sarkisian expects Tre Wisner back for Florida.
“As Wisner and (CJ) Baxter start to find their way back, we have to find out the best balance and combo. We’ll use this week to try to figure out the workload balance,” Sarkisian said. “Sometimes a week like this shows us that we need to remove some things because they aren’t as good as we thought they might.”
Like Sarkisian said, it will give the offense some legitimate balance moving forward. A potent running game is only going to help first-year starter Arch Manning and the passing game. Players like Ryan Wingo, Jack Endries, DeAndre Moore, and Parker Livingstone will be sure to find themselves in one-on-one situations.
Wisner was the lone 1,000-yard rusher returning in 2025 but he has yet to put his stamp on the season. If he can come back at full-go, Sarkisian’s offensive attack will receive quite the shot in the proverbial arm.

One of the top Texas weapons will need to get up to speed before SEC play starts against the Florida Gators
Texas Longhorns’ running back Tre Wisner did not play last weekend versus San Jose State. After a strong Week 1 performance against Ohio State, the only returning 1,000-yard rusher in the country was in street clothes due to a leg injury. “He’s got a leg injury that we held him today, and we just didn’t […]
The importance of adding Tre Wisner back is palpable.
Sarkisian was recently asked about the availability and status of Wisner. He gave a very vague answer.
“Feels like Wisner is “connected” to everything that is happening. Super engaged with everything mentally. Is there potential rust? Hopes that practice will help him feel game ready,” Orangebloods’ Geoff Ketchum said. “(Sarkisian) mentions nothing specific about his body, which is kind of what the question was really about.”
The big concern is for the travel roster now when Texas heads to Florida. Which running backs will go? Sarkisian has leaned on a trio of underclassmen. Jerrick Gibson, Christian Clark, and James Simon have combined for 387 yards on 89 carries (4.3 ypc). Gibson currently leads the team in rushing attempts (36) and yards (155).
