Texas five-star commit Dia Bell addresses setback in his football career
One of Steve Sarkisian’s five-star commits has publicly updated everyone on his senior season.
On Sunday, American Heritage (Fla.) quarterback and Texas commit Dia Bell cleared the air on his future as a high school senior.
“These last 5 years have been more than I could have ever imagined. Every moment spent on a field with my brothers was a dream come true. I took none of them for granted! It was an honor and a privilege to work along side all of you. You are my brothers for life! Coaches, you stuck with me and believed in me when it wasn’t easy to do so. You poured into me, you taught me, and helped develop me. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it. Thank you! I consider you all family too. I am forever grateful for you all and for this incredible ride!
“Unfortunately, that ride has come to an end. As many of you already know, I will not be playing for the rest of the 2025 season due to an unexpected, minor procedure that needs to be addressed. I am heartbroken and disappointed that I won’t be able to win another state championship with you all. I know that you guys will take care of business. Leon, welcome to the family! Do your thing, and lead these guys to another ring. As disappointing as the ending of this chapter is for me. I am even more excited about being 100% healthy and starting the next chapter in Austin! To my new family, my Longhorn family…see you all in January!”
Despite missing his final year of high school, Dia Bell has made an impact.
The five-star prospect finishes his 2025 campaign by completing 43-for-68 passes for 540 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. The top Texas verbal commit is ranked 4th overall in the country and is Rivals’ No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class.
As a junior, he threw for 2,560 yards and 27 touchdowns at American Heritage.

247Sports’ director of scouting Andrew Ivins thinks Dia Bell is going to be a difference maker at Texas.
“Crafty quarterback prospect with a well-rounded game that has shown year-over-year improvement. Had junior campaign cut short due to injury, but put strong spells of play on tape while navigating through one of the more difficult schedules in the country,” Ivins said. “Frequently calm and collected in the pocket and isn’t one to flinch in the face of pressure as he uses his above-average athleticism to extend plays and get out of trouble. Smooth stroke and cleaner mechanics allow him to layer the football to the second level and exploit tight coverage windows.
Utilizes plenty of touch on his deep shots and will lead his wide receivers to the promise land. Has gotten better at working through his progressions, but must keep evolving as a field reader and understand when the risk might outweigh the reward,” Ivins said. “Likely to undergo a major physical transformation in the coming years as in-person evaluations suggest that the body – which is equipped with big 10-inch hands – is still maturing.”
