Texas five-star commit now stands alone in the high school record books – surpassing some elite NFL company
The Longhorns got themselves a good one in the 2026 class.
Last week, Willis (Tex.) wide receiver Jermaine Bishop etched his name in the Texas high school record books in the Houston area.
Entering Friday’s matchup with Cleveland (Tex.), the five-star prospect needed just 54 yards to break the area record. In a 49-6 blowout, he wasn’t needed much but still managed to grab 68 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Now, he is the all-time leading wideout with 3,601 yards in 41 games.
Jermaine Bishop is now atop the leaderboard over some NFL superstars.
Michigan’s Andrew Marsh was the leader in the record book with 3,586. Bishop is also now ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb (3,418) and the Green Bay Packers’ Matthew Golden (3,242). Furthermore, Bishop has a legitimate shot to break more records, per 247Sports’ Jordan Scruggs.
“After racking up 620 receiving yards in the first five games of the 2025 season, Bishop now stands 39th in Texas UIL history with 3,601 all-time receiving yards,” Scruggs said. “Bishop looks on pace to finish much higher by the end of the season as the five-star is now just 731 receiving yards away from becoming the state’s 10th all-time leading receiver.
“If he breaks into the top 10, Bishop will be the only player on the list who played at the 6A level besides former five-star and current Seattle Seahawk Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Rockwall 2016-2019).”

The top-ranked prospect demands attention because of his versatility and explosive playmaking ability.
Jermaine Bishop is going to be all over the record book regardless of how his senior season ends.
He has a legitimate shot to break into the Top 15 in career receptions. Right now, he has 199 total and is 49th in Texas UIL history. Scruggs writes he is currently on pace to finish somewhere between No. 10 and No. 15 on the all-time list.
“Bishop is currently 59 receptions away from being No. 10 all-time, and 48 receptions away from being No. 15 all-time.”
The elite company in this category is Smith-Njigba and Tyler Johnson who are the only 6A players to in the Top 15.
The career touchdown receptions is another he can be at least Top 20 in.
Right now, Bishop has eight touchdowns through five games. He is currently 27th overall with 43 total. At the current pace the Texas commit is on, though, he could once again find his name among the greats in Texas UIL history.
He is 15 scores away from being 10th all-time.
“It feels pretty good to come down that little homestretch,” Bishop said about getting close to breaking several records. “But I try not to get complacent and try to stay humble and not to get a big head.”
