It is a great day for the Texas Longhorns on the recruiting trail as they now have their latest commitment.
Four-star running back James Simon announced that he would be taking his talents to Texas and would be joining the Longhorns.
By gaining his commitment, Texas was able to beat out SEC opponents Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M.
“I would say I knew a good month or two ago, just continually going down there and it just always felt like home,” Simon said after his commitment on the On3 live show. “They just showed me consistent love and consistent value that I was a top priority for them. So, I definitely knew it was time to be home.”
Simon gives Texas the No. 13 running back in the class of 2025, according to 247 Sports. Simon is listed as the No. 201 player in the class and the fourth-ranked player in the state of Louisiana. The talented running back plays his high school ball at Calvary Baptist Academy.
Simon said he knew after the Texas spring game that he would be becoming a Longhorn. It was during the long car ride home that Simon was able to come to a decision with his family, then they made head coach Steve Sarkisian aware.
The Longhorns now have two running backs in the class of 2025 committed, as three-star running back Rickey Stewart made his decision to commit back in April. Stewart is an in-state product that plays at Chapel Hill.
Texas is getting a 5-foot-11 running back that is very similar to the size that Bijan Robinson entered weighing 200 pounds. It would be unfair to expect Simon to be the next Robinson, but he has high hopes for his time in Austin.
“Y’all for sure are going to get a dog,” Simon said. “Definitely something you haven’t seen before at the running back position. It’s come through once, y’all saw some great talent at the running back position, but I definitely don’t think y’all seen anything like me yet.”
According to 247 Sports, the Longhorns have the No. 13 ranked class in 2025 and Simon helps them jump up a bit with his commitment.
