The Texas Longhorns received some recent good news regarding a 2026 playmaker on offense. Steve Sarkisian's team will never lack talent, but garnering some top-end athletes will always be at the top of a coaches' list in college football.
Elite RB considering Texas in final six
According to Hayes Fawcett, the Longhorns are one of Ezavier Crowell's final six schools that he is considering. Crowell is ranked as the number two RB in the 2026 HS class, via On3.
This past season, the running back room for Steve Sarkisian was ravaged by injuries. Accordingly, adding talent to that position will be important during this offseason and next. Depth got tested in 2024, and that can happen in any season, especially in the hardships of the SEC.
Not to mention, the Longhorns are losing Jaydon Blue to the 2025 NFL Draft.
As of now, CJ Baxter and Quintrevion Wisner both project to lead the backfield for the Longhorns next season, but they could still add some portal talent before the summer.
For Crowell, he's an important piece to the RB class for 2026, coming out of high school. He will visit Texas on June 6th.
“I am not planning to commit before my senior season, so I am taking it slow,” Crowell told On3’s Chad Simmons last month. “I will take my official visits this summer, probably go to some games in the season, then make a decision late in the season or after the season.” — On3
Now former Texas RBs coach Tashard Choice had a relationship with Crowell, but his departure has not removed the Longhorns from his consideration.
The other teams he is considering are Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, and Ohio State. Clearly, the SEC has been fierce in their pursuit of the potential star RB.
‘I don’t see it happening’ Texas Longhorns may be out of luck when it comes to landing one of their top 2026 recruiting targets
