With the recent dismissal of Stanford head coach Troy Taylor, the Cardinal are sure to suffer several losses from their roster. We already saw a huge one when star pass rusher David Bailey entered the Transfer Portal this past weekend. In three seasons with the team, Bailey ended his Stanford career with 111 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and seven forced fumbles.
From a pure talent perspective, Bailey has legitimate NFL upside. The 6-3, 250-pound pass rusher already has the attention of NFL scouts around the league. It’s not much of a surprise that Bailey gained a ton of attention once he entered the portal, and already has a substantial market.
On Tuesday, Bailey made the trip to visit the Texas Longhorns. Bailey is also setting up visits to both Texas Tech and UCLA. The Longhorns are especially an intriguing fit, and could potentially create an elite group if they can close on Bailey.
If you just look on paper, the defensive end position is not a major need for Texas. Even though you lost Barryn Sorrell this offseason to the NFL, the Longhorns do return all of Colin Simmons, Trey Moore, and Ethan Burke. Between those three, they recorded 110 total tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles. That is one of the more productive trios in all of college football heading into 2025.
Bailey just isn’t a talent you say no to. You know what’s better than a group of Simmons, Moore, and Burke? A group of Simmons, Moore, Burke, and Bailey.
Texas Tech is also an interesting potential fit for Bailey. The EDGE position is not nearly in as good of a shape for the Red Raiders. They received a commitment from Georgia Tech pass rusher Romello Height this offseason, but more talent and production is needed. Bailey would provide that instantly, and Texas Tech has shown they aren’t afraid to throw around some money.
UCLA is another interesting potential fit for Bailey. They have developed the EDGE position at a high level the last couple of years. That includes Femi Oladejo this past year, and the Murphy twins the year before. It is going to be viewed as a bit of a wildcard, but the developmental track is pretty attractive.
Arch Manning's father explains the 'big mess' with NIL after Texas canceled its spring game
The Texas Longhorns were one of the first programs in the country to float the idea of canceling its annual spring game back in December. Head coach Steve Sarkisian eventually confirmed it, citing that changes in the recruiting calendar, the transfer portal, and an extended season were reasons to change priorities. “I do think spring […]
