The Texas Longhorns appear to be the team to beat for a 2027 four-star recruit that has plenty of suitors.

2027 four-star tight end Zac Fares told Rivals this past week that Texas is definitely the team standing out the most in his recruitment.

Fares, 6-foot-5/220 pounds from Las Vegas, NV (he’s originally from Ohio), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 13 tight end in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Nevada.

“Texas has a great program and I have a good relationship coach (Jeff) Banks and coach Sark knows what he’s doing,” said Fares recently to On3. “I visited last September and had a great time and I’ve been wanting to get back there so I’m really looking forward to the official.”

Fares’ official visit to Texas is scheduled for June 19.

Who is the biggest threat to Texas for Zach Fares?

Several other programs are interested in Fares, but it could be the the Ohio State Buckeyes that loom as the biggest threat to Texas in this battle.

As noted earlier, Fares is from Ohio, which could make it tough for him to turn down the Buckeyes if they turn up the heat.

UCLA and UNLV are also strongly pursuing Fares.

But for now, it’s Texas, according to On3’s Adam Gorney, that “looks strongest” in this recruiting battle.

The Longhorns currently have six players committed to their 2027 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 8 in the nation.
