The Texas Longhorns continue to stay committed on the 2026 high school recruiting trail. Steve Sarkisian isn't done trying to land a fairly local star, either. Instead, he is attempting to steal a big-time recruit right out from under the nose of the Oklahoma Sooners.
Four-star WR Mason James includes Texas in final 5
The top recruit in Oklahoma for the 2026 high school class has included the Longhorns in his final five potential schools, according to Hayes Fawcett. He will announce his decision on June 25th. James will visit Texas on June 13th, according to On3.
Oklahoma will get the final visit before James' commitment, presenting a potential problem for the Longhorns. That meeting could leave a lasting impression on the young wideout. Not to mention, OU has been a constant option for James and has received positive remarks from him.
“They were first to offer me and from the start, Oklahoma has been there, they have been consistent and they have shown me I am important to them. That consistency has shown me a lot.” — James via On3’s Chad Simmons
Although, James also mentioned Texas a contender to land him as well. They're committing plenty of resources to attempt to steal him from the Sooners' grasps.
“Missouri and Washington were great visits. Both coaching staffs are recruiting me hard too. Texas is another one I would say is a contender." — James via On3’s Chad Simmons
James is ranked as the No. 195 overall prospect in the 2026 class, via the On3 Industry Ranking. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 29 wide receiver in the class. Luring him to Texas would make clear waves on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns offensive staff.
No matter what – the Longhorns stay steady on his radar. Adding him to their 2026 recruiting class would be a major win for Sarkisian and co., while also hindering a bit of the talent for Oklahoma's class at the same exact time.
Let's see where James ends up later this summer.
