The Texas Longhorns were named this week as a program to watch for a 2026 four-star recruit that has one of the best names in the 2026 class.
247Sports' Tom Loy pointed out Texas as one of five programs to watch for four-star linebacker Tank King.
Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Nebraska are the other programs that Loy pointed out as teams to watch for King.
"There was plenty of early buzz around Notre Dame," wrote Loy in regards to King's recruitment. "There were some sources that felt a commitment could come soon. He clearly pushed back on that thought and remains patient with his process. It's clear Texas A&M and Texas are both major, major contenders in this one."
King, 6-foot-1/205 lbs from Port Arthur, TX, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 21 linebacker in the nation and the No. 33 player in the state of Texas.
The talented linebacker, who will take an official visit to Texas on June 13, is expected to announce his commitment later this summer (before the start of his senior season of high school football).
"They've always been recruiting me," said King to 247Sports of his interest in the Longhorns. "They are family. They treat me well and always have."
Is there a better linebacker name than "Tank King"? What an elite name for a defensive player.
Names, of course, don't have any impact on a player's performance, but King has the mindset that suggests he'll live up to his name. The coveted recruit has his eyes on winning a national championship in college, which is one reason why he's strongly interested in Texas.
“What excites me is that they (Texas) are goal driven to continue to go for a National Championship,” said King to On3 earlier this year. “They want to always make every season better than the last season."
Texas is in a good spot in this recruiting battle, but the next few months will be key in determining who lands the four-star recruit.
