Texas Longhorns should you start, reserve or just keep tabs on for your NFL fantasy league team
Even Steelers coach Mike Tomlin knows Falcons RB Bijan Robinson is a ‘home-run hitter’ for NFL fantasy owners
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin wasted no time delivering his thoughts about Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson.
Tomlin called the Texas ex a “home-run hitter” on Tuesday. The second-year player is no doubt one of the league’s most exciting players and Falcons fans are eager to see Robinson’s growth.
Robinson should have been a high pick in everyone’s fantasy football draft in August. But what other Texas Longhorns are out there to stock your fantasy lineups, and who should you pick up as a reserve?
There are more Texas exes out there than one might imagine.
Weekly starting candidates
Bijan Robinson, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Robinson averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season and 8.4 yards per reception as a rookie. He finished just shy 24 yards shy of a 1,000-yard rushing campaign and scored four touchdowns. Falcons fans want him touching the ball more.
Cameron Dicker, K, Los Angeles Chargers: Dicker, the kicker, just landed a four-year extension worth $22 million, which includes $12.5 million in guaranteed money. He’s now one of the highest paid kickers in the league and one of the most reliable. He was 31-of-33 last season on field goals.
Keep an eye on these reserves
Sam Ehlinger, QB, Indianapolis Colts: Gardner Minshew is the Colts’ starter, and Ehlinger survived the 53-man roster. Colts fans love this scrappy Austin native. Ehlinger has completed 63.4% of his throws for 573 yards but that’s all in eight games during the 2022 season.
Roschon Johnson, RB, Chicago Bears: Johnson’s numbers could be hurt by the Bears’ offseason pick-up of D’Andre Swift. Khalil Herbert also needs some carries, too.
Devin Duvernay, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars: Duvernay spent the last four years in Baltimore and tallied 94 catches for 898 yards with five touchdowns. He’s not a primary target in Jacksonville, but his speed cannot be overlooked.
Big-time rookies looking to make impact
Xavier Worthy, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: The high-flying Worthy has already impressed Patrick Mahomes with his preseason touchdown catch and football IQ. Mahomes is likely to make Worthy a worthy payoff for someone who rolls the dice and puts him in the lineup.
Adonai Mitchell, WR, Indianapolis Colts: Mitchell was being looked at the second or third receiver in Colts camp. He’s like Worthy, a player that will jump up and reward fantasy owners on the day you least expect it.
Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE, Tennessee Titans: As a rookie, Sanders could be a cheap add-on to a fantasy roster. He’s behind Diontae Johnson, but with running back Jonathan Brooks starting the year injured, Sanders might get some early play.
