The Texas Longhorns made a major move on the diamond to begin this week. AS the 2025 Men's College World Series unfolds, the Longhorns grabbed a potential star out of the transfer portal.

Texas is certainly not happy that they're not longer playing this postseason, but this latest addition could be a key reason they make a longer run in the postseason in 2026.

Longhorns land commitment from LHP Luke Dotson

According to Luke Dotson himself, the big lefty is headed to Austin to play for Jim Schlossnagle. He's staying in the SEC.

The now former Mississippi State Bulldog pitcher finished the 2025 season with a 3.09 ERA. He struck out 34 in 23.1 innings. Opponents hit just .214 against Dotson in 2025. Dotson held the closer role at times for State's pitching staff, but he proved that he could give them length at times out of the bullpen as well.

Dotson was a young arm they hoped would stay in the fold following a coaching change, but the return of Ryan McPherson, Charlie Foster, and Dane Burns helped lighten the burden of Dotson's portal entry for the Bulldogs.

It is possible that Dotson could move into a starting role, but he will have to find another pitch for his arsenal most likely in order to do that.

Dotson's best pitch is his changeup. He lives in the low 90s with his fastball, but the change is what he will make his money with at the next level and potentially with Texas next season.

His whiff rate on the changeup this past season was over 70%. When Dotson is on, he can be an elite option for the pitching staff of the Longhorns. It remains to be seen what his role will be, but regardless, this is a talented pickup for Texas.
