The Southeastern Conference will officially announce the football opponents for every school for the next four years Tuesday. It will be revealed in an hour-long television special at 7pm ET on the SEC Network and ESPN2.

In the new nine-team league schedule, each SEC program will have three annual opponents. Every four years, the annual opponents will be re-evaluated along with the six rotational opponents – meaning each SEC school will play every other school at least once every two years and every opponent home and away in a four-year span.

On3’s Chris Low revealed the opponents for the Texas Longhorns Monday after speaking with sources.

As expected, Texas’ three annual opponents will rekindle old rivalries.

The Longhorns and Sooners have battled in the Red River Shootout for 125 years – dating back to when Texas was in the SWC and Oklahoma was in the Big 8. The game has taken place every year in Dallas since 1929 at the Cotton Bowl on the fairgrounds. Texas leads the all-time series 65-51-5. Last season, Texas won, 34-3. The two will face off once again October 11 at 2:30pm.

Texas and Texas A&M first played in 1894 and then played every year from 1915 to 2011. But, when Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC, the rivalry went on hiatus on the football field. It returned in 2024 and the Longhorns defeated the Aggies, 17-7, at Kyle Field. The Longhorns have dominated the all-time series 77-37-5. The two will play again Friday, November 28 at 6:30pm in Austin, Tex.

And finally, Texas and Arkansas make up the final three annual matchups. The two programs first played in 1894 when each were members of the SWC from 1915 to 1992. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 57-23, with Texas winning the last game, 20-10, in 2024. The Hogs and Horns will play again this season November 22.

If you’re a Texas fan, you have to like this first rotation of annual opponents.

A lot was made about reigniting the Texas A&M rivalry and now it looks like it’s here to stay. Arkansas is an old rival as well which will now be on the schedule every year for the foreseeable future. And finally, of course the Sooners and Longhorns will face off every year at the Cotton Bowl, as is tradition.

Looking at it two ways, as a fan of traditional matchups, this is as good as it gets. You have nostalgia, old conference foes, and competitive games. Texas A&M and Oklahoma are playing like Top 10 teams entering Week 5. Arkansas might be in the market for a new head coach soon so it could bring even more spice to the schedule. This is a big win for Texas, in my opinion.
