The Texas Longhorns could be poised to reveal its best-kept secret Saturday against the Florida Gators
Steve Sarkisian and Texas might have its best kept secret revealed on offense Saturday.
On Thursday, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns received big-time news. Stanford transfer wide receiver Emmett Mosley V is set to make his debut Saturday versus the Florida Gators.
Mosley had been battling an undisclosed injury during fall camp. Now, he’s set to bring his versatile game to Arch Manning and the rest of the Texas offense.
The 6-foot-2, 210 pounder finished his 2024 year with 48 receptions for 525 receiving yards (10.9) – leading the Cardinal with six touchdown receptions. Mosley played in nine games with eight starts and set Stanford records for most receptions and receiving yards by a true freshman. Furthermore, his 525 receiving yards were the most by a Stanford true freshman since Richard Sherman had 581 in 2006.
Emmett Mosley V is going to provide a unique skill set.
Known as a route technician after his freshman season in Palo Alto, he has strong hands and displays impressive body control for a youngster. As the son of a former college football player, Mosley has a high IQ and processes well. Once he gets up to speed 100 percent with the playbook and builds chemistry with Manning, he could be one of the top wideouts in Austin.
The versatile has been mentioned. He is more than capable of playing both inside and outside wide receiver. His thick frame allows him to win one-on-ones and make tough catches in traffic. He can also get skinny when pressed at the line and beat coverage. There’s a considerable amount of short-space quickness, too – allowing him to be involved in the screen game as well.
With all the attention on Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, and Parker Livingstone, it should provide ample opportunities for both Mosley and tight end Jack Endries.
Emmett Mosley V bio blast
- 4-star prospect out of Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.)
- Chose Stanford over Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Washington, UCLA, and Oregon
- Father, Emmett Mosley IV, played at Notre Dame from 1993-1996 and his mother played soccer at Notre Dame and was an All-American
- All-American Bowl and All-CIF Division I selection
Rivals’ Eric Nahlin gives his thoughts on what to expect moving forward.
“Since he was added, we’ve cautioned fans about what to expect from Mosley despite his productive freshman year (48-525-6),” Nahlin said. “This wasn’t like adding Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Bond, or Matthew Golden, but he is a good player and could be just what the team needs when it comes to experience and reliability.
“Arch Manning and Mosley had a good week of practice together, even connecting on a handful of passes in “team” work. We’ve heard about his ability as a blocker since the day Texas gained his commitment, but IT was surprised to learn he’s thicker than Ryan Wingo,” Nahlin said. “We don’t believe he will start, but he will play early and is viewed as interchangeable with Wingo or Parker Livingstone. At times, we could see any combo of two on the field with DeAndre Moore, or any two of those four when in 12 personnel.”
