Left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. has always been pegged as a universal first-round NFL Draft pick, and now two more Longhorns are moving up the boards and into the first round
Pro Football Focus, the website that grades every college game, has unveiled a new NFL mock draft that includes cornerback Jahdae Barron and receiver Matthew Golden in the first round.
PFF still has Travis Hunter going first overall. But Texas players won’t have to wait long.
Banks is currently projected to go 11th overall to the San Francisco 49ers. He’s considered the best offensive tackle in the draft, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.

According to PFF, “For my money, Banks is the best offensive tackle in this draft. He finished as college football's most valuable Power Four tackle this season, according to PFF’s wins above average metric, and has been outstanding since his true freshman year. He would slot in as the right tackle for the 49ers, opposite Trent Williams, and his athleticism is a perfect fit in San Francisco’s zone-heavy run scheme.”
PFF also released its cornerback grades for the 2024 season and had Barron as the highest-graded corner in FBS.
In this new mock draft, Barron is slated to go 23rd overall to the Green Bay Packers.
On Barron, PFF wrote, “While Jaire Alexander is consistently one of the better cornerbacks in the league, the Packers have had issues finding someone to pair with him. Barron can play both on the outside and in the slot and was the most valuable cornerback in college season this past season, according to PFF’s wins above average metric. Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley ran a man-heavy defense at Boston College, but he switched to a more zone-heavy scheme with Green Bay, which fits Barron’s profile perfectly.”
Golden is the one who will move up the boards, lifting himself out of the second round with a terrific postseason run.
PFF now projects Golden to be taken 25th overall by the Houston Texans.
“Stefon Diggs’ impending free agency and Tank Dell‘s likely lengthy absence due to another serious leg injury should have the Texans looking to add a receiver to complement Nico Collins. Golden was a breakout player for the Longhorns this year, as his PFF receiving grade against single coverage and zone coverage were both in the 90th percentile for FBS wide receivers.”
Defensive end Barryn Sorrell is the only Longhorn who ended up going to the Senior Bowl and participating. It’ll be interesting to keep track how these mock drafts change over the coming weeks as players visit teams and go through the NFL Scouting Combine.
