The Longhorns have always honored their consensus All-Americans by hanging portraits in the football building for all to see. Some new portraits are going up.

Left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. has been named a unanimous All-American and cornerback Jahdae Barron is a consensus All-American for their tremendous 2024 seasons.

Banks is the 25th Longhorn to earn unanimous first-team All-American status after being honored by the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and Walter Camp.

Barron was named a first-team All-American by Associated Press, FWAA and The Sporting News. Players who earn first-team designation by three of the five major outlets are considered consensus All-Americans. He’s the 65th consensus All-American in UT history.

By this point, their personal stories are well known.

Banks is a three-year starter who was one of the first major recruits in the Steve Sarkisian era. His commitment signaled to the rest of college football that the Longhorns were serious about recruiting “big humans.”

Barron was eager to go pro last season after a middling college career. Sarkisian and the coaches convinced him to stay and improve. Now, Barron is the Jim Thorpe Award winner and is a likely late first- or early second-round pick.

Both players have suffered through injuries, disappointment and joy of playing Texas football. They are both expected to start Saturday against Clemson in the College Football Playoffs.

And at some point, both can bring their families to the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Complex and show off their All-American paintings.
