Don’t look now, Texas fans, but some of the national pundits are getting on the Longhorns’ bandwagon for the College Football Playoffs.

If you believe this is bad luck or bad karma, avert your gaze.

Let’s start with On3 national college football writer Ari Wasserman’s picks. He’s got the Longhorns winning Saturday and then going all the way.

“One thing I'll say: I found this extremely difficult,” Wasserman posted along with his bracket. “Every team has huge flaws that can cost them a game. No matter who is crowned the national champ, it'll have done so overcoming a huge weakness.

“I picked Texas because the Longhorns' defense may be the most reliable unit remaining in the country. In reality, who knows what's going to happen? Logging off until Wednesday to avoid the crossfire of this one.”

The Athletic’s David Ubben also picked Texas and posted, “My bracket projection. Just remember I only picked this way because I hate your team.”

Texas is an 11 1/2-point favorite this week against Clemson in the first round. UT would likely be an oddsmakers’ favorite in a potential quarterfinal round matchup against Big 12 champ Arizona State.

On The Athletic’s Until Saturday podcast last week, Damien Harris was emphatic in his belief that Texas coach Steve Sarkisian should change things up at quarterback to give the Horns their best chance.

“If I’m Steve Sarkisian going into College Football Playoffs, not even necessarily worried about this game against Clemson, but if I really want to shock the world and pull out a move that I think can be our trump card the rest of the way, I put Arch Manning in there, and I let him just handle the reins and see what happens.”
