Penn State already clearly had one of the best running back rooms in college football coming into their spring game on Saturday. Nick Singleton has NFL-ready traits and elite receiving chops. Kaytron Allen has proven to be an even more consistent runner in between the tackles for two years. But now it seems the Nittany Lions have the best true freshman running back in college football to go along with their special backfield duo.
True freshman running back, Quinton Martin, was the most impressive player at the Penn State spring game and it wasn't really that close. He found the end zone not once, but twice, and looked explosive on every single play.
Martin actually scored the very first touchdown of the Penn State spring game, working with the first team offense, making it look far too easy as he hit the cut back lane for the score.
But he wasn't done after that one play. Martin continued to wow on every touch, but showed real tact and next level skills to set up his second touchdown for Penn State later on in the spring game.
It may look simple, but his quick side step to the right pulled the only defensive lineman with a shot at tackling him out of place and held the safety for the necessary split second to burst his way to the end zone.
Subtle nuance and NFL-ready athleticism flashed all over his high school film. It's no surprise that Martin is already looking ready to dominate college football this spring. Martin has been considered a top 100 recruit in the 2024 class for more than two years now thanks to his incredible talent, consistently ranking near the top of running back ranks among his peers.
Martin's final two high school seasons were just ridiculous. He racked up nearly 4000 total yards, 55 touchdowns, and caught 80 receptions, leading his team in both rushing and receiving yards both seasons. He is a feature running back ready to take the Big Ten rushing crown by storm as soon as Penn State lets him.
Martin may have to wait his turn with two NFL running backs still likely ahead of him in Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, but it's great to see that he'll be ready when called upon. Nittany Lions fans should expect great things from Quinton Martin very soon.
