There's stoking the fire, and then there's making a headlining quote that will stick with you forever. 2025 5-star defensive back DJ Pickett is in the midst of his official visits, with trips to Georgia, Oregon, and Miami coming after going to LSU and Clemson. On Saturday, he compared Georgia to its biggest rival, Alabama.

DJ Pickett Calls Georgia 'The New Alabama'

Pickett told On3's Josh Newberg that he views Georgia as "the new Alabama" in the wake of head coach Nick Saban's retirement and the Bulldogs' recent dominance. The son of former Ohio State and NFL defensive tackle Ryan Pickett, DJ Pickett is a massive 6-foot-4, 180-pound cornerback and safety prospect out of Tampa, Florida. But while he was trying to give props to Georgia, he also threw some shade at the Tide.

Surely, Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs will love to see the comparison to the most dominant program in college football's history since Nebraska's run in the 1990s. With Saban gone and the Crimson Tide struggling a bit to find their footing with the 2025 recruiting class, there's a window for Smart to step on the throat of his biggest rival.

Of course, Alabama has much more history than what Saban accomplished. Before Saban arrived, the Tide won 12 national titles and 20 SEC championships.

And Alabama just beat Georgia in the SEC Championship, so they're far from dead in the water.

Pickett is deciding between LSU, Oregon, Georgia, Clemson, and Miami. Read more about why LSU brought Patrick Peterson to help recruit Pickett.
