Now that all official summer campus visits have concluded top four and five star college football recruits are setting commitment dates left and right. The recruiting calendar continues to accelerate as players are looking to lock in their roster spots earlier every off-season. One top tier defensive back recruit has been constantly rising for the past year and is finally about to commit to one of the best programs in the country.

Trey McNutt has been both dominant with his pads on and on the 7-on-7 circuit, as you can see in the post below.

McNutt has nearly 40 FBS scholarship offers, but he's finally narrowed things down to Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Florida, and Texas A&M. So where will this five star defensive back land? And what makes him so special?

Trey McNutt, DB Shaker Heights High School

Trey McNutt spent most of this summer making official visits, and going to special recruiting events reserved for the best players in the nation. Since last fall, McNutt's stock has risen because he was one of the best receivers and defensive backs in the country. He racked up over 60 tackles, double-digit passes defended, but then also scored a dozen total touchdowns on offense.

McNutt brings with him plenty of proven production, but he's also a track star. He's posted several 100 meter times in the 10.8 range, showing elite burst and speed. That athleticism translates well on field as he's on the most instinctual, explosive, impressive defenders in all of football right now. Regardless of where he lands expectations will be high for McNutt to star right away.

Predicted Landing Spot for McNutt

Trey McNutt's father Richard was a part of the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes national championship team, who starred for three straight seasons in Columbus. Early on in his recruitment the Buckeyes seemed like surefire favorites for McNutt. However, in recent months Oregon has been surging. He was very vocal about how well that visit went in Oregon, and posted several shots and a video from his photo shoot (as you can see below).

Oregon has been dominant on the field and in recruiting here recently, as Dan Lanning continues to log wins this off-season building the potential number one overall class for 2025. McNutt has made it rather clear that he loves the Ducks quite a bit, and in recent weeks some top recruiting analysts have submitted predictions that he'll choose the Ducks.

However, McNutt has been fairly adamant that all of his finalists are truly in it. And while he didn't take a lenghty official visit with Ohio State this summer, he's spent several unofficials with them and could certainly end up with the Buckeyes given the ties to his father and Ohio State being the in-state team for him.

The surprise programs would likely be USC, Florida, or Texas A&M here for him. USC's recruiting class continues to fall apart as they just lost a couple key decommits on defense. Florida and Texas A&M have underperformed given their expectations and talent on the field. Both programs have a track record of sending defensive backs to the pros, but neither coaching staff has the proven background (except for perhaps a small sample for Mike Elko and A&M).

If USC does pull this off, the home visit this spring from Lincoln Riley might be what made it happen, but this battle likely comes down to Ohio State and Oregon based on all the information that I've gathered from sources close to his recruitment. Regardless of where he lands McNutt is going to be an instant impact playmaker.
