With the transfer portal opening on Friday, the chaos is right on the horizon. The portal has a deep crop of talented quarterbacks this cycle, which will make for a lot of rumors, speculation, and movement across college football. One talented signal caller who hasn’t gotten as much attention is former Michigan State standout Aidan Chiles.

After Chiles followed head coach Jonathan Smith to East Lansing, it wasn’t overly surprising to see him test the portal waters this offseason. In two years as a starter for the Spartans, Chiles managed to throw for 3,807 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also ran for 452 yards and nine scores. While the rebuild limited Chiles’ production, there is no questioning that there is still more upside for Chiles to tap into.

Still only 20-years-old, Chiles has some legitimate interest across college football and some options for his final season. According to a source, three schools have separated themselves to land Chiles. Those three programs are Clemson, Nebraska, and Virginia.

Each option presents some intriguing upside, but it is uncertain whether there is a preference in the Chiles camp among the three. A decision is imminent, and the situation warrants close monitoring.

Aidan Chiles’ background

Chiles played his freshman season at Oregon State before transferring to play for the Spartans. During that lone season at Oregon State, Chiles served as a main backup to DJ Uiagalelei. In nine games played, the California native completed 24 of 35 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 79 yards and three more scores on the ground in limited action.

Originally coming out of the 2023 recruiting class, Chiles was a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. The Downey (Calif.) High School product was rated as the No. 168 overall player, the No. 13 quarterback, and the No. 12 player in the state of California in the 2023 class. That was fresh off a senior season where Chiles threw for 3,350 yards and 38 touchdowns. He added another 940 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground as well.

The 6-3, 225-pound passer had several intriguing options coming out of high school. Some of his top targets included the Beavers, Oregon, Washington, Kansas State, Washington State, and Rutgers, among many others. He has a lot more suitors this time around.
