It would be stating the obvious to say that the Dallas Cowboys season has been a major disappointment through nine games; however rookie wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been a bright spot for the team.
Lamb was drafted in the first-round by the Dallas Cowboys this past April after the Oklahoma product fell further in the draft than many expected. The Cowboys did not blink when he was still on the board, adding him to a wide receivers corps already consisting of Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup.
The rookie formed quite the connection with quarterback Dak Prescott early on in the season. Prescott looked Lamb's way early and often through the first five weeks of the schedule, as Lamb totaled at least 59 yards in every game with Prescott behind center.
Lamb's breakout game came against the Cleveland Browns, when Prescott nearly led the Cowboys to quite the come-from-behind victory. The Oklahoma product caught five passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns. It was becoming more and more evident that the franchise quarterback was trusting the rookie pass catcher more and more.
As expected, the rook's numbers have dropped off without number four throwing the rock. Lamb struggled to get the football — and hold onto the ball, as was the case against the Washington Football Team — with Andy Dalton and Ben DiNucci at quarterback.
New life was shown with Garrett Gilbert behind center, as the pair hooked up four times for 71 yards and a touchdown, including a big throw and catch on the final drive against the Pittsburgh Steelers to give the Cowboys a chance to hand the Steelers their first loss of the year.
Lamb is on pace to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark on the season — despite the musical chairs and inconsistent play from the quarterback position. The first-round selection is averaging more than 13 yards per reception and has as many touchdowns as DeAndre Hopkins in 2020. Not too shabby for the rookie.
There has not been a ton to be excited about this season if you are a Dallas Cowboys fan — especially after Dak Prescott went down — but CeeDee Lamb is providing a bright spot and a lot of hope for the future outlook of this team.
Dak Prescott cannot return to the field soon enough.
