In the fourth quarter of their win Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys (10-3) saw starting right tackle Terence Steele go down with an apparent knee injury.
In his place, initially, second year swing tackle Josh Ball filled in. With less than desirable results. In his 26 snaps, he allowed two QB pressures, a strip sack, and was the leading cause for the interception with the Cowboys pinned deep inside their own 10.
More than enough to see Ball isn't ready. Turning to veteran Jason Peters for the final drive at right tackle.
Despite play left tackle and guard all year, Peters was near flawless. Giving QB Dak Prescott much better protection in the pocket and push in the run game.
After the game, the initial reports were "not good" on Terence Steele. The Dallas Cowboys feard it could be season-ending with an MRI pending. Until it was revealed he in fact tore both his ACL and MCL.
It looks like the Cowboys are being cautious and realistic with their approach as it's been revealed the plans for the position. First reported by Clarence Hill Jr of the Ft. Worth Star Telegram, Peters will serve as the starter moving forward.
The Dallas Cowboys were so distraught with Ball they took him out, in place of a player who hasn't taken a practice snap at right tackle all year.
Peters is clearly the better player. Film session can show how much more comfortable and dominant he is at the position. Even with less experience.
The good news is the Dallas Cowboys have a plan in place.
With the eventual return of Tyron Smith, the lineup will look like this:
LT – Tyron Smith
LG – Tyler Smith
C – Tyler Biadasz
RG – Zack Martin
RT – Jason Peters
Could be worse.
