Whose bandwagon are you hopping on for the 2022 Dallas Cowboys? Adam Schein from NFL.com recently put together an article on this topic league-wide but today on A to Z Sports, we're narrowing it down to the Cowboys.
Let's dive into the three bandwagons we're hopping on ahead of the upcoming season!
1. WR CeeDee Lamb
Pretty much everyone in Cowboys Nation has been on the CeeDee Lamb bandwagon since the moment he was drafted in 2020. But now, the assignment is far greater. Lamb is no longer expected to be the guy that shines behind Amari Cooper.
Now, he's the guy defenses will worry primarily about every game. Can Lamb live up to the task?
I'm betting he can. He's shown he can win outside and inside, averaging 1,019 yards in his first two seasons in the NFL. He's clearly built rapport with Dak and has received confidence from the organization for him to step up.
Some are concerned about the number of drops, but that should be fixable. Not to mention, drops can be a misleading stat as plenty of the top receivers in the league usually lead the league in this category.
With a few more pounds of muscle added in the offseason, CeeDee looks ready to go.
2. RB Tony Pollard
To be more specific, it's not that I'm jumping on the Pollard bandwagon. By now, we know how explosive he is and why he's been acknowledged as a true play-maker in Dallas. But the bandwagon I'm jumping on is on his usage rate.
The Cowboys have been rumored to focus on increasing Pollard's workload before but they've been empty promises for the most part. Yet, it's getting harder to ignore that Pollard deserves more playing time.
It's early in the offseason but the Cowboys are reportedly increasing Pollard's workload in OTAs, including some playing time in the slot. Many have suggested #20 would thrive in a hybrid role and has even earned comparisons to the 49ers' Deebo Samuel.
Be it in the backfield, the slot, or even sharing the field with Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard needs more snaps. It's gotten too obvious to ignore. I'm hopping on the bandwagon of the Cowboys actually giving it to him.
3. LT Tyron Smith
For a long time, Tyron Smith has been a clear fan favorite. So why include him on a post that's all about bandwagons?
The truth is most Tyron Smith conversations around Cowboys Nation seem to have somewhat of a negative connotation around them. You can't talk about the left tackle without the possibility of him missing multiple weeks coming up right away.
Even the Cowboys themselves have drafted Tyler Smith, who they describe as a future successor to Tyron at left tackle.
And that's fair, but it's caused many to overlook the fact that he's still a dominant force in the NFL. When he's on the field, Tyron is still an elite athlete with great technique that even though he's past his prime will win versus elite competition.
If you have hopped off the Tyron Smith bandwagon, you might've done so too early.
