The Dallas Cowboys will play their first NFC East game of the season on Monday Night Football. The 2-0 New York Giants will try to survive Micah Parsons and Company on national TV.

The Giants are not the only ones off to a hot 2-0 start. Here on Betting the Cowboys, we're off to a comfortable 2-0 start with our bets. This is the toughest game to bet yet. Let's dive in!

Last year, we had a positive record of 9-7 on this weekly series "Betting the Cowboys." That's a 56.3% hit rate, over the goal of hitting 52.4% which would be our breakeven rate on -110 odds.

The odds

  • Spread: Dallas Cowboys +1 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Dallas Cowboys -105 / New York Giants -115
  • Total: 39

Public betting is fading the Cowboys

The public is split on this one.

Per Action Network, 55% of the bets are on the Giants with only 45% backing the Cowboys. Last week, we went against 83% of the bets on the Bengals. This time around though, people are undecided on what's expected to be an ugly, low-scoring affair.

Trends

  • The Cowboys are 20-7 against the spread (ATS) in their last 27 vs. NFC East
  • Under is 4-1 in Cowboys' last 5 games overall.
  • The Giants are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

The pick: Two golden rules back the Cowboys

This is an ugly game to bet. The total set at 39 offers almost no value even if you're expecting a low-scoring duel and the spread is close to a pick 'em. But I'll keep it simple and follow two of my favorite profitable rules.

  1. Favor the trenches.
  2. In a battle of unconvincing teams, take the points.

Although both defenses should have the advantage in the trenches, I'll give a slight edge to the Cowboys. On defense, they've got the league leader in pressure rate Micah Parsons. He and DeMarcus Lawrence will go at PFF's lowest-graded offensive line.

And while Dallas' offensive line is also a unit that needs work, they've been surprisingly physical with strong performances from Tyler Smith and Tyler Biadasz.

Give me the trenches and the points and let's get to 3-0 on Betting the Cowboys!

The bet: COWBOYS +1

Season bets: 2-0

Last season bets: 9-7 (56.25%)
