Cowboys reportedly reach out to coveted free agent
Dallas is interested in a veteran defender with experience playing for Dan Quinn.
The Dallas Cowboys may be planning to make some noise. Dallas cleared up $30 million in cap space after re-structuring the contracts of Dak Prescott and Zack Martin.
Which opens the door for the Cowboys to add some talent to the roster in free agency. One player that Dallas is already reportedly expressing real interest in is a veteran defender that has played for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Jordan Schultz of The Score is reporting that the Cowboys have reached out to linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner recently parted ways with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason, and he's free to sign with the team of his choice.
In addition to the Cowboys, the Chargers have also reached out to Wagner. His market is "heating up" per Schultz as multiple teams around the league have made contact with the linebacker.
Wagner makes sense for the Cowboys for multiple reasons. For one, he played under Dan Quinn while with the Seattle Seahawks. Meaning he knows what to expect from Quinn, is familiar with the system, and can bring leadership to the unit.
Furthermore, there seems to be real chance that Leighton Vander Esch leaves in free agency. That would, of course, create a hole at linebacker for the Cowboys. Wagner would have the ability to fill right in.
Despite Wagner being 32, he still showed that he has talent left in the tank last season. He made 140 tackles and started all 17 games in Los Angeles last year, for instance.
Ultimately, like any other free agent that the Dallas Cowboys are interested in, it will come down to the terms of a potential deal. But it is clear that there is a realistic chance that Dallas makes it happen.
