The Dallas Cowboys made a well-documented mistake last season. When Dallas shipped Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns — for just a fifth-round draft pick in return.

Not only did the Cowboys trade away one of their best offensive playmakers prior to the 2022 season. But, they traded Cooper away for such little capital in return that it made it even more of a head-scratching move.

At the very least, the Cowboys have acknowledged mismanaging the wide receivers room. That much was clear last year with really only CeeDee Lamb being a reliable target for Dak Prescott.

Fortunately, the Cowboys have finally made a move that could potentially move the needle. Dallas has traded for Houston Texans wideout Brandin Cooks, providing the offense with a consistent pass catcher and big-play threat.

And all the Cowboys had to give up in the deal were a pair of late day-three draft selections. It was a no-brainer move for Dallas as they look to upgrade their pass-catchers unit this offseason.

Additionally, Cooks is restructuring his deal. That will save the Cowboys a little bit of money and leave the door open to possibly make other acquisitions ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

It is difficult to not be excited about this move for the Cowboys given Cook's track record and the need that existed at receiver. Cooks immediately gives Prescott a trusted target in big moments with the ability to hit a big play at any moment.

Dallas made a mistake last offseason in the Amari Cooper trade. And the impact of that was felt all season long.

Now, the Dallas Cowboys have put their money with their mouth is. The trade for Brandin Cooks upgrades the entire offense and puts the passing game back on the right trajectory.
