The $97 million man was finally back on the field for the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday. Trevon Diggs, who was dealing with a sore toe, had been getting some rest as the coaching staff took a smart approach to his injury.
He returned to team drills with a bang during the Cowboys' second padded practice. And on top of that, some trash talk for quarterback Dak Prescott.
The Trevon Diggs' highlight came as he shadowed speedy wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, who had gone in motion pre-snap from one side of the formation all the way to the other as Dak Prescott snapped the football to target him. Diggs closed in on the play for the pass breakup.
While it might've seemed like a simple play at first, consider Turpin's renowned speed. Diggs caught up to him with seeming ease as he reminded his teammates of his caliber. You can watch the clip of the play below, which takes place near the end zone.
The play also served as a reminder of Diggs' absence over the last few days of training camp. At times, every clip in social media seems to be showing Dak Prescott dealing dots to his receivers and them winning just about every battle against every defensive back (although Micah Parsons has wrecked many plays in the trenches).
In large part, that has to do with Diggs not being around in the first place. This is probably why he trash-talked Dak following the above play and a previous one where the defense kept him to a short gain on the ground. To be fair, Prescott had his share of fun running his mouth on Monday. It's all in good nature as the team prepares for a 2023 regular season in which they wish to reclaim the NFC East title and follow that up with a deep playoff run.
Having an All-Pro cornerback like Diggs back in practice is a step in the right direction.
Cowboys: Trevon Diggs’ new contract is a massive win for the team
The Dallas Cowboys cornerback will become one of the highest-paid players at his position but the deal seems like a big win for the front office in many ways.
