Cowboys: CeeDee Lamb can't give up on the play like he did vs Cardinals

CeeDee Lamb had one of the most frustrating moments of the Dallas Cowboys' loss versus the Arizona Cardinals in the end zone.

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Arizona Cardinals mainly because of a struggling run defense and because of the lack of execution (and some questionable play-calling) in the red zone.

And while CeeDee Lamb was not at the top of the team's problems on Sunday, one particular play sticks out as one of the most frustrating of all.  Down by eight, Dak Prescott looked for his No. 1 wide receiver in the end zone on third and goal. Arizona Cardinals cornerback Kei'Trel Clark played sticky coverage and didn't give up the touchdown.

There was some contact in the play, which led to Lamb calling for a flag which he didn't get. Clark's technique played a part in that being that he was looking at the ball for most of the play.

I'll never criticize a player for calling for a flag. These guys are ultimate competitors and will look for every edge they can get and that's fine by me. The problem, however, was the timing of Lamb's demands. He straight up gave up on the play instead of fighting for the football, which was seemingly still in reach.

The football even bounces off of Clark's helmet, indicating CeeDee absolutely had a chance at snatching it for the touchdown. Instead of trying to make the catch through contact though, Lamb was already throwing both hands up in the air and looking for an official. You can watch the replay below.

Lamb is fresh off of an 11-catch, 143-yard performance against the New York Jets' vaunted defense. We know what he's capable of, which makes his lack of effort in the play all the more frustrating. Because let's not sugarcoat it, it was a lack of effort.

Keep in mind, the moment came with the Cowboys down 13-21. A score could've changed the outcome of Week 3. Simply put, the Cowboys need Lamb to make that catch. An attempt will suffice if he can't haul it in, at least.

I insist: The game wasn't lost on this play yet coming from Lamb and since it was about effort, it's got to be one of the most frustrating moments of the game.

Lamb was second on the team in receiving yards for the day with four catches in seven targets for 53 yards. Michael Gallup led the squad with 92 yards, many of which came after the catch.
