The Dallas Cowboys recently wrapped the 2023 NFL Draft, but they took care of some important business beforehand.

Dallas exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver CeeDee Lamb which will pay him $17.99 million in 2024. Now, with Lamb locked in for at least the next two seasons, the Cowboys have time to work out something long-term, and the sooner the better before the price skyrockets.

Lamb seems cool, calm and collected about the situation based on his recent comments about his future with the Cowboys.

“I’m very excited, Dallas is somewhere I’ve always wanted to be," Lamb said. "I don’t see myself really wearing any other jersey. I don’t really want to get into too much detail on that, but I’m definitely excited for the future.”

Lamb has reasons to be that secure.

The Cowboys get criticized for certain things as far as the way they go about things, and rightfully so in certain cases. However, if they are truly invested in a player, they usually get their guy, so the probability of Lamb getting a long-term deal in Dallas is very high after his fifth-year option was picked up.

Dallas made plenty of waves when they traded for wide receiver Brandin Cooks back in March. This means that Lamb can spend more time in the slot where he flourishes, and a healthy Michael Gallup and Cooks give the Cowboys two capable weapons on the outside as well. Simply put, Dallas has an embarrassment of riches at the top of their receiver room.

With multiple threats outside of Lamb on the field, opposing defenses won't be able to shade coverage his way as often, meaning he'll have more situations where he's singled up on a cornerback. So, when diving into things, Lamb could potentially have his best season yet in 2023 if everything goes smoothly which plays into his favor when it comes to negotiations.

Lamb already has multiple Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro nod on his resume, so it's clear he was worth the pick. It may not happen right away, but the Cowboys will secure Lamb at some point with a lucrative deal.
